BMC took to Instagram to announce the completion of the Gokhale Bridge & CD Barfiwala Flyover alignment in Andheri. As per their update, the civic body was able to complete the connecting road in a “record-breaking 78 days”. Now, only some ancillary works and tests related to traffic management remain and are likely to be completed in the next two days.

As per BMC, this new lane connecting West and East Andheri traffic will be open for traffic from July 4 at 5 PM. It was earlier anticipated to open on July 1. However, due to some remaining ancillary work and tests, the opening date was delayed. As per a report in The Free Press Journal, important tests such as the ‘Non-Destructive’ and ‘Q’ tests, along with some load tests were carried out on the Gokhale Bridge & CD Barfiwala Flyover alignment. After satisfactory results, the VJTI issued an NOC to the BMC on Sunday.

The alignment work of the two structures commenced in April this year. BMC, reportedly, used hydraulic jacks to lift the two spans of girders that were required for merging the structures. This alignment project has been completed in ₹8 crore.

Once open, the Gokhale Bridge & CD Barfiwala Flyover alignment will ease traffic congestion for commuters in Andheri. Once operational, it will reduce congestion at SV Road and allow a smooth traffic flow. The route is a boon for motorists travelling from Juhu towards Andheri East or Western Express Highway as it will save travel time as well.

It is to be noted that only lightweight vehicles will be allowed on the route for now. Heavy motor vehicles would only be permitted after the completion of the second phase. As per The Free Press Journal, the complete Gokhale Bridge is likely to open for traffic by March 31, 2025.

Mumbai’s infrastructural development over the last few years has been quite impressive! We can’t wait to see what more projects await the city.
