A massive fire has set the slums of Azad Nagar ablaze. Located in Bhayander East. So far, one fatality has been reported and reports say that there are a number of people still trapped in the fire. Rescue operations are underway and one firefighter, identified as Shivaji Sawant, has been injured. The person who died is identified as Deepak Chaurasia. The fire is believed to have originated from a scrap godown.

Massive Fire Breaks Out At Bhayander’s Azad Nagar Slums

According to an article which was recently published by The Times Of India or TOI, this particular fire was reported around six in the morning. The exact cause of the fire breaking out has not been identified so far.

However, the locals who live close to the area claimed that they heard explosions. These explosions may have resulted from the bursting of gas cylinders. As many as 24 fire tenders have been sent to contain the fire by the Mira-Bhayander Municipal Corporation or MBMC.

Rescue operations are still going on. Upon finding out about the fire, locals left their homes and rushed out. As per the TOI article, the fire spread more than five kilometres from the slum. The fire is believed to have originated from a godown.

Firefighter Injured, One Dead, Several Trapped Due To The Fire

So far, the fire has claimed one life and has injured many, including two minors and one firefighter. Deepak Chaurasia is the name of the deceased and the firefighter’s name is Shivaji Sawant. A number of huts and shops have also been razed by the fire.

Many people are still trapped in the dangerous fire. More than 50 commercial establishments and godowns were also destroyed in the fire.
