Travelling to Mumbai or Pune today by road? Well, then here’s bad news for you. The Mumbai-Pune Expressway AKA Yashwantrao Chavan Expressway is shut down for at least 6 hours today. This is due to the ongoing Panvel-Karjat double-track suburban rail corridor. Read on to know the alternative routes you can take instead.

The Mumbai Rail Vikas Corporation Limited has informed the public on January 18, 2024, the Yashwantrao Chavan Expressway or the Mumbai-Pune Expressway will be shut down for at least 6 hours. The expressway will be shut down at the m 07.560, Chikhale Rail Over Bridge.

People travelling from Pune to Mumbai will face issues today due to the ongoing construction work happening for the Panvel-Karjat double-track suburban rail corridor. The authorities have informed commuters to opt for alternative routes to avoid any sort of inconvenience or halt in plans. Regular traffic on the Mumbai-Pune Expressway will resume post the completion of the construction work.

What Alternative Routes Can You Take?

As per a report by Livemint, if you’re planning to travel from Pune to Mumbai via the Mumbai-Pune Expressway today, then, here are some alternative routes for you.

  • Two-wheelers, three-wheelers and other light vehicles heading from Pune to Mumbai can exit the Mumbai lane at Km 55.000. And then redirect the route via Mumbai-Pune National Highway 48.
  • Furthermore, light vehicles can take the Khopali exit on Mumbai Lane 39.800. Afterwhich vehicles can continue running on the Mumbai-Pune National Highway 48.
  • All Pune-Mumbai commuters can also drive down to the last lane at the Khalapur toll gate  nestled on the Mumbai-Pune Expressway.
  • Next, these vehicles can take the diversion from Km 32.500 to the Khalapur exit. Then, commuters can head to Khopali Shedung toll plaza and travel on the Mumbai-Pune National Highway 48.
  • Vehicles travelling on Pune-Mumbai route can also take a detour from Mumbai lane 9.600 Panvel exit. And then head to Karanjade to use the Mumbai-Pune National Highway 48 to reach Kalamboli.
  • Finally, all vehicles on the Pune-Mumbai route on the Mumbai-Pune National Highway 48 will be re-touted to Panvel via Shedung Phata.
