Mumbai Rains Destroy 2 Buildings In Vile Parle & Ghatkopar; 2 Dead & 2 Injured

Mumbai rains

The monsoon season is here. In Mumbai, people have a polarised perception of monsoon. You either hate it or love it. The season is disliked by many owing to the infrastructural problems that happen because of rain. The relatively minor inconvenience is that train schedules are delayed. But one of the more major consequences is that old buildings in the city suffer damage and even collapse. Recently, Mumbai rains ended up significantly damaging the buildings so much so that they ended up collapsing.

There are a lot of buildings in the city that are very old or are poorly maintained. When the monsoon season arrives, it exacerbates the damage and sometimes, these buildings end up collapsing. Something similar happened in Mumbai recently.

Two buildings collapsed in two different localities. One in Vile Parle and the other in Ghatkopar. Rescue operations are underway as it is suspected that at least two people are trapped in the rubble. Luckily though, there were no injuries or fatalities caused by the collapse of the building in Ghatkopar.

Unfortunately though, the same cannot be said for the building collapse in Vile Parle. Parts of the building collapsed in the Gaothan area near Nanavati Hospital on St. Braz Road. This particular incident happened on the 25th of June around noon.

The building that collapsed in Vila Parle ended up claiming the lives of two people. Further, many reports also state that two more were injured. According to an article recently published by The Indian Express, the incident occurred because many people ran to the building’s balcony to watch a procession.

The weight was too much and the balcony, which was perched on the first floor, ended up collapsing. The injured were rushed to Cooper Hospital where two of them were declared dead. They were identified as Robi Misauita who was 70 years old and Prishila Misauita who was 65 years old. They were a married couple.
