Young adults sometimes face problems in catching a train during rush times and we can only imagine how difficult it gets for senior citizens. According to a report by Mumbai Live, the Railways recently took the decision to reserve a train compartment only for the senior citizens. Local trains running on the lines of Central Railway and Western Railway will soon get reserved coaches for senior citizens.

Back in 2022, a Public Interest Litigation was filed stating how about 50,000 elderly citizens travel to Mumbai locals every day and the problems they encounter, according to a report by The Times of India. Also, a petition was filed to the Bombay High Court. It stated how there is a finite number of seats on trains and the number of passengers is only increasing. Following it, the High Court asked the Central Railway and Western Railway to look into it.

Previously, the Railways had some plans to transform Mumbai locals to some extent and make the existing old coaches as reserved coaches for senior citizens. Later, they sent a similar plan for taking it ahead and it got approval as well.

In addition to the middle compartment, senior citizens already get reserved seats in the first and last second-class coaches.
