In a security mix-up, a standby passenger ended up boarding the Mumbai-Varanasi IndiGo flight instead of the passenger who had the confirmed ticket. A standby passenger is an airline staff member who may take a seat on an aeroplane in case it is vacant. However, in this case, the passenger with the confirmed ticket was present but owing to some oversight, their seat was given to the standby passenger.
Mumbai-Varanasi IndiGo Flight: Standby Passenger Seated Instead Of Confirmed One
According to an article which was recently published by The Telegraph, the incident took place on Tuesday, May 21 on flight numbered 6E 6543. The flight was headed to Varanasi in the Indian state of Uttar Pradesh.
It originated from the Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj International Airport or CSMIA in Mumbai. If reports are to go by, a standby passenger was seated in place of the passenger who had the confirmed ticket.
This created quite some confusion when the rightful passenger showed up. As per a statement by IndiGo cited in the Telegraph article, there was some mix-up during the boarding process which led to this oversight. The passenger was discovered when the plane was taxiing to the runway and a passenger was seen standing at the rear end.
Situation Amended Soon; Flight Saw A Minor Delay In Take-Off
The statement also went on to say that the mix-up was soon discovered and the rightful passenger with the confirmed ticket ended up getting their seat. The standby passenger was subsequently deboarded. This entire mix-up took some time to sort out and the flight had to witness a minor delay in its departure.
The airline has been witnessing a lot of criticism for its poor service, tardiness and overall passenger dissatisfaction. It has been at the receiving end last week. It was reported that an IndiGo flight was stranded for more than an hour at the Rajiv Gandhi International Airport or RGIA in Hyderabad.
Another passenger took to social media and said that their flight was delayed on Mother’s Day and that they now “trauma” because of IndiGo.
