In this Sunday Brunch episode, our Editor-in-Chief, Kamiya Jani, had a candid conversation with hit Punjabi singer Karan Aujla. The singer, who has faced many challenges in his life, opened up like never before. From talking about his journey to revealing the flip side of rising fame, he shared it all.

Karan Aujla Talks About The Flip Side Of Fame 

Tunes of Softly, Wavy and more instantly start playing in our minds when we think of Karan Aujla, also known as Geeta Di Machine. The singer, who hails from Punjab, has made a big name for himself in the music industry. But success didn’t come easy. From losing both his parents at an early age to struggling to find someone to share his feelings with, Karan Aujla has truly been through a lot. His hard work and dedication have given him the fame he deserves. But, according to him, fame surely comes with a flip side.

When asked by our Editor-in-Chief, Kamiya Jani, if there are any perils to rising fame, Karan Aujla replied, “I have experienced threats, extortion calls, threats of being shot at and more.” He revealed that he has even woken up to the sound of gunshots, which was terrifying. He further added,  “I don’t wish that on anybody.” Karan also shared how people threatened him by saying, “Maar denge agar itne paise nahi diye”(We will kill you if you don’t pay this much of an amount). Some even threatened him and tried to stop him from performing.

Living With Security Concerns

Karan Aujla shared that rising fame often brings serious security concerns. He said he doesn’t understand the reason behind such threats since he is simply making music for entertainment. Many times, he thought about leaving singing altogether and doing another job for the sake of his family’s safety. He also thanked his family for being strong and supportive through it all. When asked about his biggest fear, Karan Aujla admitted, “Losing my people.” 

Apart from this,  Karan also shared light-hearted anecdotes, including blunders on stage and his first meeting with Shah Rukh Khan. All this unfolded over a Mumbai-style brunch of vada pav, misal pav, sev puri, pav bhaji and more.
