In India, bus accidents have often caused serious casualties, and one such tragic incident occurred recently in Mumbai. On Monday night, a BEST bus crashed into pedestrians in Bhandup (West), killing people and injuring people. The accident took place on the busy Station Road, a spot usually crowded with pedestrians. BEST Bus In Mumbai Crashes Into Pedestrians

In Mumbai, a terrifying accident occurred when a BEST bus suddenly crashed into pedestrians around 10:05 pm. According to Mid-Day, the accident resulted in the deaths of four people and left nine others injured. Among the dead were three women and one man. The injured included eight men and one woman, all of whom were immediately rushed to nearby hospitals for treatment.

At Rajawadi Hospital, a 31-year-old woman was declared dead, and a 51-year-old man, Prashant Lad, is in critical condition. At MT Agarwal Hospital, three people were brought in dead, and nine others are receiving treatment for their injuries.

Investigation In Progress

The bus that crashed was a wet-leased Olectra midi bus running on route A-606 from Vikhroli Depot. The driver, 52-year-old Santosh Ramesh Sawant, and the conductor, 47-year-old Bhagwan Bhau Ghare, have been identified. The accident happened while the bus was reversing at the end of its route. CCTV footage shows pedestrians panicking as the bus suddenly moved backwards and also hit many people.

Senior police officials, including DCP Hemrajsingh Rajput of Zone-7, rushed to the scene to inspect and help. The police have taken the bus driver into custody and registered an FIR against him. Emergency teams like the Mumbai Fire Brigade, local police, BEST staff, and 108 Ambulance services responded quickly and rushed to the accident spot.

As per India Today, Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis announced ₹5 lakh for the families of those who died. He called the accident “extremely unfortunate,” paid tribute to the victims, and prayed for the quick recovery of the injured.

This is not the first serious BEST bus accident. In December last year, a bus in Kurla hit pedestrians and about 22 vehicles, killing nine people and injuring 42 others.
