UK PM Keir Starmer Dines At THIS 68-YO Iconic Mumbai Restaurant Known For Its Biryani & Kebabs

Celebrated artist M.F. Husain created some of his masterpieces right here at Khyber. To honour that legacy, the restaurant features a special 'Husain Room’ displaying three of his paintings.

UK PM Keir Starmer is currently in Mumbai on a two-day visit as part of strengthening trade ties between India and the UK. But official meetings didn’t stop him from indulging in Indian food, and that too at one of the city’s most iconic restaurants, Khyber, located in Kala Ghoda.

The legendary restaurant in the Kala Ghoda neighbourhood of Mumbai has been serving lip-smacking kebabs and biryani for 68 years. UK PM Keir Starmer choosing to dine there was not on anyone’s bingo card this year. But we hope he had a great time exploring the authentic Mughlai cuisine.

The update was shared by Khyber’s official Instagram page. The restaurant team expressed their happiness and wrote, “The British Prime Minister’s visit to Khyber marks a proud milestone for Mumbai’s dining legacy. Founded by Mr Sudheer Bahl and now led by his son, Mr Ishaan Bahl, Khyber stands as a symbol of India’s rich culture and world-class hospitality.” Not just that, owner Ishaan Bahl also took to his Instagram stories and wrote, “A privilege and honour to have UK Prime Minister @keirstarmer at @khyberrestaurant.in The legacy lives on.”

Founded by O.P. Bahl and now led by his son and grandson, Sudheer Bahl and Ishaan Bahl, respectively, Khyber first opened its doors in 1958. Since then, it has become one of the most renowned fine-dining restaurants in the world. Over the years, Khyber has served Bollywood icons like Amitabh Bachchan, Aamir Khan, and many others. The fine-dining restaurant has also gained international recognition over the years. It has hosted global personalities such as the Prince of Luxembourg, the Kuwait royal family, Sir Richard Branson, Demi Moore, and more. 

Khyber offers guests an intimate dining experience with mood lighting and decor inspired by the Mughal era. Some dishes you simply cannot miss are their Spiced Chicken Broth, Tandoori Raan, and Chicken Kebab Platter. You should also try their Lamb Kebab Platter, Methi Malai Mutter, Prawns Mughlai, and of course, their biryani.

You would be interested to know that celebrated artist M.F. Husain created some of his masterpieces right here at Khyber. To honour that legacy, the restaurant features a special ‘Husain Room’. The room displays three of his paintings: an Urdu calligraphy, a painting of a begum holding a chillum, and a self-portrait in royal attire, as reported by News18. This year, Khyber turned 68 but celebrated its 65th anniversary instead, since the restaurant was closed during the COVID-19 lockdown.
