For anyone who thought Nupur Sanon was only there to enjoy the feast on Sunday Brunch, here’s a twist. She can cook. And not just the occasional pasta or Maggi. While chatting with Kamiya Jani and joined by husband Stebin Ben over a spread of South Indian and Punjabi favourites, Nupur Sanon casually revealed that she’s the kind of person who treats recipes like suggestions!
Nupur Sanon Reveals Her Lockdown Cooking Adventures
Turns out, the lockdown turned Nupur into the unofficial North Indian chef of the Sanon household. While everyone was stuck indoors trying to figure out what day it even was, Nupur Sanon found herself making full-fledged North Indian meals at home. The kitchen, meanwhile, became a shared space for the Sanon sisters. If Nupur was busy with gravies and mains, Kriti Sanon had already claimed the dessert counter.
“Kriti used to bake desserts and all,” Nupur Sanon shared, recalling how the sisters would cook together during lockdown. Fans probably remember Kriti’s banana bread phase that had become an internet moment back then! Those posts weren’t just for Instagram. Baking had genuinely become her thing, while Nupur preferred experimenting with everyday meals.

Kriti Sanon & Nupur Sanon’s Lockdown Kitchen
And that’s where things got interesting. Nupur revealed that she was the first person in her family to make Quinoa Biryani. It wasn’t some planned health recipe or a social media trend she was trying to recreate. The family had become increasingly health-conscious during lockdown, and according to her, everyone had lost weight. But healthy eating has one problem. It doesn’t magically make biryani cravings disappear.
So instead of choosing between fitness and flavour, she decided to find a middle ground. Rice went out, and quinoa came in. And there it was, a homemade Quinoa Biryani that let everyone satisfy their craving without completely abandoning their health goals.
She also admitted she’s an extremely experimental cook, and honestly, some of her kitchen decisions sound like they belong on a cooking reality show.
“I’ll even put sambar masala in biryani,” she laughed, adding that she never really worries about whether an ingredient is supposed to belong there.
Safe to say, if the Sanon sisters ever decide to host a dinner, expect dessert from Kriti Sanon, an unconventional biryani from Nupur Sanon, and at least one ingredient nobody saw coming.
