Some couples have a “we met over coffee” story. Nupur Sanon and Stebin Ben have a lockdown love story that began with a drive. The couple recently joined Kamiya Jani for an episode of Sunday Brunch, where conversations flowed as easily as the South Indian and Punjabi feast laid out in front of them. Amid all the food and fun, Kamiya Jani pulled out a game of ‘Never Have I Ever ‘, which led to one of the sweetest revelations of the episode.
First Date Planned By Stebin Ben
She asked the couple about their first date, where it happened and who had planned it. Before either of them could overthink the answer, both said the same thing: it was in a car.
Stebin Ben laughed as he recalled that he was the one who had picked Nupur Sanon up. When Kamiya Jani, our Editor-in-Chief, followed it up by asking whose idea the date was in the first place, he didn’t hesitate. “It was my idea,” he admitted. Sitting beside him, Nupur Sanon immediately nodded in agreement, confirming that she was completely on board from the very beginning.
It might sound like an unusual setting for a first date today, but back then, it made full sense.

Pandemic Love Story They’ll Always Remember
Stebin Ben explained that this was during the COVID-19 lockdown, when meeting someone wasn’t as simple as booking a table or catching a movie. Cafes were shut, restaurants weren’t an option, and the world had slowed to a standstill. Going for a drive became the only way they could spend time together without staying confined to their phone screens.
“It was lockdown time, so we couldn’t really meet outside,” he shared.
That drive didn’t come out of nowhere either. Before meeting face-to-face, Nupur Sanon and Stebin Ben had already been talking for quite some time. They revealed that their days were filled with chats, long FaceTime calls and endless conversations, slowly getting to know each other before finally deciding it was time to meet in person.
Looking back now, their first date feels like a tiny time capsule from the pandemic years.
