Mumbaikars Alert! Railway To Have 63-Hr Mega Block Starting Tomorrow; 930 Trains Cancelled

Mumbaikars, brace yourselves for some major commute issues in the next three days! The Central Railways will operate a mega block lasting 63 hours on all its lines – Western, Central, Harbour and Trans-Harbour. Owing to this major inconvenience, officials have requested establishments to give work-from-home to commuters so that fewer passengers have to travel on these days. Here are all of the other important details that you would need to know about this major mega block on Mumbai local trains.

Central Railway To Have Big Mega Block Starting Tomorrow

According to an article which was recently published by The Economic Times or ET, this information was revealed in a press conference on Wednesday, May 29. The Divisional Manager of Central Railways, Rajneesh Goyal, said in the press conference that train services will be badly hit.

Both suburban lines as well as mail services will be impacted. As per the manager’s statement cited in the ET article, the block is being carried out to conduct work on two major terminals of Mumbai trains – the Thane station and the Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj Terminus or CSMT.

The 63-hour block will start at midnight on Thursday and it is for the widening of platform numbers 5 and 6 at the Thane station. Another 36-hour block will start at midnight on Friday for the extension of platform numbers 10 and 11.

A Total Of 930 Trains Will Be Cancelled; Officials Urge WFH

To avoid inconvenience, officials have urged companies and establishments to provide work from home to employees who will be impacted by the block. Once the platforms are widened, other facilities like escalators can be implemented.

A total of 930 trains will be cancelled owing to the block. Of these, 161 were on Friday, 534 on Saturday and 235 on Sunday. Only 26 out of 956 total will be running during these three days. The two mega blocks will end on Sunday, June 2, at 3:30 PM.
