Mumbai Traffic Police has announced that the eastern freeway ramps will be closed for 59 days. The eastern freeway connects the Eastern Express Highway at Chembur to P. D’Mello Road in south Mumbai. DCP Traffic, Mumbai, in a notification, ordered the closure of the freeway until May 30.

Eastern Freeway Ramps Will be Closed

The notification mentioned that the Eastern Freeway will be closed to traffic to ensure smooth traffic flow, avoid hazards, and minimise disruption for the general public. For both southbound and northbound traffic, the eastern freeway ramps A, B, E, and C1 will be closed throughout the night. This closure will be on some selected 59 days starting from January 17 to May 30, 2023.

Alternative Route For Traffic

The notification also mentioned that the above order was issued on a temporary basis.

The Eastern Freeway’s main purpose is to shorten travel time between South Mumbai and the Eastern Suburbs. It helps relieve traffic congestion on Dr. B. R. Ambedkar Road, Rafi Ahmed Kidwai Marg, Port Trust Road, P. D. Mello Road, the Eastern Express Highway (EEH), and Mohammad Ali Road. The freeway is not open to heavy vehicles (except public buses), three-wheelers, two-wheelers, bullock carts, handcarts, or pedestrians. Vehicles are also not permitted to stop on the eastern freeway. The maximum permitted speed is 80 km/h.
