Mumbai’s Roads Will Now See 21 Seater Mini AC BEST Buses

Mumbaikars will soon notice mini buses that are operated by the Brihanmumbai Electric Supply and Transport (BEST) on the roads of the city. With the seating capacity of 21 people inside the bus, six such buses will be soon seen running between the prime locations in Mumbai. These fully air-conditioned mini AC BEST buses are diesel-driven and are taken on a wet-lease for the duration of seven years.

There will be an addition of 400 new buses and these will be launched in batches but the next set of buses will only be seen after the state’s assembly election. The air-conditioned minibuses will make the journey of commuters easy and hassle-free. According to TOI reports, they will be operating between Mumbai’s busiest routes like Prabhadevi, Malad, Goregaon and also some running in the close distance like Mumbai CST – Nariman point and Churchgate-Nariman Point-Cuffe Parade area.

This news comes right after the launch of Maharashtra’s very first electric bus called Shivai. With the launch of these mini AC buses, the BEST aims at providing last-mile connectivity to its commuters. Dr Surendra Kumar Badge, General Manager of BEST said, “We have sent a team to Force Motors plant in Prithampur to inspect the first prototype. We are expecting a few buses in the first week of September.” If all goes to plan, some of these may even be operational by the end of the month,” reports Mumbai Mirror.

Shiv Sena Chief, Uddhav Thackrey mentioned the statement made by Finance Minister, Nirmala Sitharaman about people moving to Ola and Uber for a comforting journey. He said he feels content knowing the fact that these mini AC buses will also be a probable competitor and win back the customers that have moved to these private companies.
