Navi Mumbai To Get Mangrove Parks In Airoli & Ghansoli

According to Hindustan Times, Navi Mumbai will get mangrove parks in Airoli and Ghansoli. The main focus of these parks will be conservation and community engagement. Following a tender process, the Maharashtra Forest Department has appointed a consultant for the conceptual design and planning of these parks.

Navi Mumbai, built along the creek, owes much of its flood protection—especially during events like the 26/7 floods—to the dense mangrove forests lining its shores. However, in recent years, these vital ecosystems have come under increasing threat, thanks to various development activities that have led to significant degradation.

To counter this, the Mangrove Division North Konkan under the Mangrove Cell, Mumbai, began work on developing an “eco-sensitive recreational, educational and conservation infrastructure”, that is the mangrove parks in Navi Mumbai.
