The Abu Dhabi Agriculture and Food Safety Authority (ADAFSA) has shut down a restaurant in Abu Dhabi. The reason behind its order to shut down is that the restaurant was found violating the non-halal food rules. The decision asked the Nepali Himalayan Restaurant in Abu Dhabi to ‘administratively close’ its operations. If the restaurant wishes to reopen, it has to address the issues.
Nepali Himalayan Restaurant In Abu Dhabi Shut Down
The Abu Dhabi Agriculture and Food Safety Authority (ADAFSA) found out that Nepali Himalayan Restaurant was preparing and selling food by breaching the non-halal rules.
They were selling and preparing non-halal food without the necessary official permits. It was also seen that the restaurant prepared non-halal food with the same tools and kitchen equipment used for halal food. The restaurant clearly failed to separate halal and non-halal food.
The ADAFSA stated in its order that the restaurant, which holds trade licence number CN-3025629, has been found to be in violation of Law No. (2) of 2008 regarding food in the emirate of Abu Dhabi and its supporting legislation.
A significant piece of legislation pertaining to food safety in the Emirate of Abu Dhabi is Law No. 2, which was initially published in January 2008.
Risk To People’s Health
The practices followed by the Nepali Himalayan Restaurant in Abu Dhabi pose significant risks to people’s health, as per the authority.
The Abu Dhabi Agriculture and Food Safety Authority (ADAFSA) mentioned that once these issues are addressed, the restaurant can be reopened. The restaurant will have to sterilise the entire place, change the equipment used for preparing food, and then reopen.
The law emphasises consumer protection and protects the safety of food, whether it is imported or handled on the domestic market in the emirate of Abu Dhabi. It also outlines the private sector’s obligation to maintain the highest standards of food safety as well as the function and authority of food inspectors.
