The Indian government has announced new passport rules in India, and some of them involve changes to increase security, privacy, and speed in the application process. The new rules are related to address details, parental data, documents required, and passport colour coding. Passport Rules In India: Removal Of Parental Details And Printed Address
One of the major changes in the new Indian passport regulations is that printed residential addresses will be removed. Rather, an official will read a bar code to view this information, providing more security and privacy.
Similarly, parents’ names will not be on passports anymore, which is good news for single parents and estranged families. This is applied in an attempt to minimise paperwork without compromising confidentiality.

Passport Colour Coding And Expansion Of Services
The new guidelines strengthen the already existing colour-coding of passports:
- White-coloured passports for government employees.
- Red-coloured passports for diplomats.
- Blue-coloured passports for common citizens.
Also, to enhance accessibility, the government has decided to increase the number of Post Office Passport Seva Kendras (POPSKs) from 442 to 600 over the next five years. This move will accelerate passport services and curtail application delays.
Compulsory Birth Certificate As Proof Of Date Of Birth
One of the major changes in the new Indian passport rules is making the birth certificates the only valid evidence of date of birth for those born on or after October 1, 2023.
Senior citizens have the right to produce other documents like a PAN card, school certificate, or driving license. It is a standard that brings consistency and genuineness along with establishing age.
These changes in the new Indian passport regulations indicate a move towards a more secure and efficient process. Although modifications such as digital addresses and birth certificates may need to be adjusted, they actually increase privacy and efficiency.
