New Year Celebrations Banned At Bangalore’s MG Road & Brigade Road; Pubs To Operate At 50% Capacity

A new year is dawning upon us now, but the grey clouds of COVID-19 still surround us. So, what is the solution? For Karnataka, the government has announced that public gatherings for New Year celebrations will be banned on Brigade Road and MG Road. The state government said that other public gatherings for New Year celebrations would be strictly limited. Pubs and restaurants in MG Road and Brigade Road shall operate at just 50% capacity amid the New Year celebrations.

MG Road & Brigade Road In Bangalore Won’t Have Public New Year Celebrations

Karnataka Health Minister, Dr. K Sudhakaran stated to The News Minute “Public gatherings will be limited between December 20th and January 2nd across the state. This decision was taken after recommendations from the Technical Advisory Committee. Earlier permission was given by BBMP for this. This will not be given this year.”  He further added that people would have to partake in the New Year celebrations within their homes or at pubs and bars. However, the pubs and bars will operate at half of their capacity. He further added that people would be wrong to assume there will be no restrictions for COVID due to the new year.

Police Permission Required For Public Celebrations For New Year In Bangalore

Further on this, Revenue Minister R Ashoka said that any other public celebrations for New Year would need police permission. He added, “Celebrate within your house. MG Road and Brigade Road celebrations will not be given. Passes will be given for people organizing a public gathering in this period by the police, but it won’t be given for MG Road and Brigade Road celebrations. Many people have lost their loved ones to this disease. We must be cautious.” He added that the government has prioritized checking the crowd gathering. He said that political and religious gatherings would be allowed in limited numbers. Forget New Year, you can always visit Brigade road to just chill and shop. Here are the fun things you can do.
