The Mumbai Trans Harbour Link, which is the longest bridge in India, will likely be open to the public later this year. The Chief Minister of Maharashtra, Eknath Shinde, and Deputy CM Devendra Fadnavis visited the bridge’s construction site.

They marked a significant milestone as the deck slab installation was finished and celebrated by flagging off the first bus to cross the bridge. According to the MMRDA website, the project involves building a 22 km long, 6-lane bridge.

While the bridge is said to be a construction marvel, the under-construction bridge has led to double work for the Mumbai Traffic Police. The bridge’s construction has caused significant vehicular jams and has forced several routes to be closed or changed.

This has led the Mumbai Traffic Police to issue an advisory to help ease the jam.

As per reports by Times Now, the advisory states that no private buses will be allowed on the Eastern Express Highway until October 31 2023. This applies to both, the South and North bound routes. The report also stated that the advisory was issued by The Deputy Commissioner Of Traffic Police (South), Gaurav Singh.

Alternate routes have been created for private buses to use while the mandate is still on so as to not create any hindrance for private bus travellers. The decision was taken after observing that traffic on the Eastern Express highway was spiralling out of control due to the construction of the MTHL  bridge.
