Researchers of the Human Microbes team are keenly studying the different kinds of microorganisms in people’s intestines. They are attempting to understand the factors in one’s diet that affect microbiome makeup. Currently, there’s not much information about why different people possess different strains of the same kind of microorganisms. Human Microbes believes that injecting a small amount of stool from a healthy person into a person with unhealthy gut health can help cure gut diseases and mental health issues.

Their website also has a video describing how you can become a “stool donor”.  It emphasises the need to donate “human waste” and how it may help “save someone’s life”. Once the poop donors are identified, the company compensates in advance and ships the human waste using dry ice. Furthermore, the company guarantees anonymity for people who aren’t comfortable revealing their source of income.
