Not Bedbugs Or Ants, A Woman Was Bitten By A Scorpion On Air India’s Nagpur-Mumbai Flight

We all have come across some tiny critters while travelling. Since it is more common to see them in public transport, finding them on aeroplanes takes us by surprise. But imagine the surprise and shock of this particular woman who was bitten on an Air India flight from Nagpur to Mumbai. But she wasn’t bitten by just any old critter, no. She was stung by a scorpion! The Air India crew handled the matter efficiently and the woman received the necessary medical attention.

This remarkable incident took place on the 23rd of April on a flight that was numbered AI 630. The flight was a domestic one and was heading from Nagpur Airport to Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj International Airport or the CSMIA in Andheri, Mumbai.

The woman was stung by a scorpion while the flight was still underway. However, the Air India crew sprang into action. They called Mumbai’s CSMIA airport in advance to let them know of the medical emergency and asked them to have the required medical team ready.

According to an article by The Times of India, as soon as the flight landed, the medical team that was readied at the Mumbai airport tended to the woman. The article also mentions that she was later taken to a hospital for further assistance and was then discharged.

According to the article, Air India also released a statement which said that it was an extraordinarily rare occurrence and that the passenger received the full support of the Air India staff. They also mentioned that after the incident, the officials carried out a thorough inspection of the aircraft and found the scorpion.

After this, the aircraft was thoroughly fumigated for double assurance. The airlines also expressed their regret and contrition over the incident. This particular incident took everyone by surprise. However, the airline did all they could to support the passenger.
