Swadishta, A Restaurant In Berlin Serving Home Cooked Indian Delicacies

Established in 2018, NRI couple Deepak and Shailaja Patil are serving the residents of Germany with matki chi usal, sev puri, dahi puri, dabeli and so much more. The restaurant sees around 200 customers every single day and on weekends there is a huge queue outside the restaurant. Deepak and Shailaja came to Berlin in 2010 and spent almost 2 decades in the place. Deepak always wanted to come up with a cafe but the idea never turned into reality. After the birth of their first child, Shailaja started to take up catering orders with Indian sweets and savouries as her speciality. From A Small Business From Home To A Restaurant

In July 2018, after two years of deep research and groundwork, the couple finally opened their restaurant in Berlin. There were about 500 restaurants in Germany that spoke about authentic Indian cuisine and Deepak was not here to be the 501th. His restaurant sure did serve authentic Indian cuisine but also freshly home cooked that too at affordable prices.  He knew all the other restaurants missed the concept of freshly home cooked and he wanted to tackle that market. None of the two had any idea about pricing, menu, listings, etc. but the passion helped them learn it all on the job. Deepak’s restaurant business had to go through many ups and downs like a partner parting ways to a fire breaking out. Shailaja retains the cooking and also makes the masalas herself which is the secret to the success of the restaurant.
