Bengali culture is one of the richest in our country. The culture has contributed vastly to the country’s diversity, from food and art forms to literature and films. Even the language is said to be one of the sweetest. However, despite their diverse contributions, there are a lot of ignorant and limiting stereotypes about the community. Debina Bonnerjee, one of the most striking Bong beauties in the television industry, hilariously poked fun at them.

Debina Bonnerjee Mocks Stereotypes About Bengalis

Bengalis are known to be sweet as well as for their sweets. However, in this funny reel, Debina Bonnerjee showed her salty side, and rightfully so, by mocking ignorant stereotypes about the Bengali community. The reel was a part of a viral trend.

She started the reel by stating “I am Bengali; of course, I have accents in all other languages that I speak.” Debina then sarcastically demonstrated her Bengali “accent” while speaking Hindi. She also pointed out hilarious stereotypes around food and Bengalis.

At one point, she talked about how Bengalis are known to use the word “khata” when speaking of consuming anything, be it solid or liquid. She said, “Hum hawa khata, paani khata, chai khata.” She also talked about how Bengalis are said to eat only Maachh Bhaat and Roshogulla despite having a vast array of food and sweet choices.

The reel struck a chord with many of her followers. They lauded the accuracy and hilarity of the reel and were even keen to supply her with more ignorant stereotypes about the community.

In the caption of the video, Debina talked about how Bengalis are more than these harmful and limiting stereotypes and how there is so much more to being a Bengali than just being a Tagore fan and eating maachh bhaat and roshogulla.
