Oman To Shut All Borders To Curb The Spread Of New Covid-19 Mutant Strain

The year 2020 hasn’t been great so far, and just when we thought of defeating covid-19, it became stronger. A new mutant strain of the fast-spreading covid-19 is infecting many in the UK. And now to curb the situation, many countries have closed their borders again. After Saudi Arabia, Oman has now announced to close its border, from the today. The Sultanate is restricting travel in and out of the country for a week to limit the spread of the fast-spreading Covid-19 mutant strain.

From Today For A Week, All International Flights Cancelled For Oman 

Oman which had opened borders for over 100 countries recently, has now made this decision to limit the spread of the new strain detected in the UK. On this, the state news agency said,

“This was taken after the emergence of a new strain of the Covid-19 virus and to protect community members from the severity of the infection and to contain its spreading.”

While the borders will be shut from today, international flights also stand cancelled. Entry into the country through its land and seaports won’t be allowed either. The measures taking place from today, December 22, will last a week. For the exclusions, cargo planes, ships and lorries will be excluded from this. The committee will continue to monitor the situation of the new strain and take suitable decisions accordingly, the agency said.

Saudi Arabia Has Also Shut Its Border To Curb The Spread Of Covid-19

Earlier this month Oman had opened its borders for tourist from 103 countries- however, everything stands shut. For the cases, Oman’s Ministry of Health on Monday reported 264 new infection cases bringing the total of people infected to 127,931 while 119,745 have recovered.

For the vaccine, the sultanate will receive the first batch of vaccines manufactured by Pfizer on Wednesday. And when it comes to the Saudi border, state-run Saudi Press Agency said the kingdom might extend the measure for another week depending on the nature of the virus spread.
