James Aspell, Owner Of The Bar Was Forced To Take This Step After UK Announced New Guidelines

The bar which, was once filled with people has now re-christened itself as ‘Church of 400 Rabbits’ as it is currently waiting for its application to be passed, by Nottingham’s registrar general to become a church. James Aspell, the owner of the bar, was forced to take this step after the UK on December 2, announced the new tiered system of restrictions. As per the latest guidelines, Nottingham falls in the tier 3 zone, where restaurants and bars are only allowed to sell takeaway or delivery drinks.

Speaking about his agony, Aspell told BBC,

“It could be months before we’re allowed to open again. We looked at the list of every business or venue that’s allowed to open under the new system and it said pretty much every other type of business apart from bars and restaurants.”

The Membership To This Church Is Free And It Also Has Some Offers

Aspell also explained to Nottingham Post how he finds the restrictions prejudiced considering that Christmas market, gyms and massage parlour are allowed to stay open amid the pandemic. In no time his agitation grabbed headlines, and now the pub has also launched a website asking people to join their group. One can either join as a ‘Bunny Believer’ or become ordained as a ‘Reverend of the Righteous Rabbits’.

Well, even after applying, they don’t think that their application would be granted- however, if it does get approved, the pub has some offers as well. The membership is completely free, but if one signs up as a Reverend it would cost £10. For both categories, one will receive a certificate of affiliation to the Church of the 400 Rabbits and get invited to attend worship. However, people signing up as Reverend of the Righteous will get a specially-designed T-Shirt and be first to be invited to such session, if permission is granted to stay open.
