Over 1.6 Lakh Indians Gave Up Their Citizenship In 2021 To Settle In These Countries

The number of Indians who renounced their citizenship surged dramatically in 2021, going from 85,256 in 2020 to 1,63,370, according data released by the Union ministry of home affairs (MHA) on Tuesday. Haji Fazlur Rehman, a Lok Sabha member for the Bahujan Samaj Party (BSP), requested the information, and Nityanand Rai, the Union minister of state for home affairs, responded by providing it.

United States Is People’s Most Preferred Choice

Haji Fazlur Rehman, is a Bahujan Samaj Party (BSP) in the Lok Sabha had requested information on the number of Indian nationals who relinquished their citizenship as of 2019 and the nations where they received citizenship. According to the data, the United States happens to be the most preferred country when it comes to settling down, followed by Australia and then Canada. Rai predicted that over 8.5 lakh Indians will have renounced their citizenship by September 30, 2021, in a speech to the Parliament in December of last year.
