BBMP kickstarted a “Bite free locality” campaign. In just over a month, 100 restaurants and hotels came on board to feed stray dogs. As per a story by Bangalore Mirror, over 28 constituencies in the city are part of this campaign that focuses on feeding stray dogs across 135 spots.

Suralkar Vikas Kishore, Special Commissioner of BBMP’s Health and Animal Husbandry Department threw more light on this story to Bangalore Mirror. He stated that on average, the civic body feeds over 1o00 dogs daily with the help of 135 hotels. In order to reduce wastage, the leftover food from the restaurants is being fed to the animals. Few other hotels are taking this initiative a step further by serving boiled rice and chicken to stray dogs.

Ever since this initiative saw daylight on October 17, it has been welcomed with open arms. On the first day itself, 150 dogs were fed at spots in Bengaluru. BBMP marshals collect leftover food from hotels and restaurants. The food parcels are then handed over to pourakarmikas (PKs) who feed the animals. There are signboards put up at feeding spots with details of the food delivery, food and water bowls.

Kishore revealed to Bangalore Mirror, that his team is planning to cover most parts of Bengaluru where there is a lack of caretakers. From 135, they wish to reach 5000 feeding spots in Bengaluru. And later expand it to 10,000. Citizens have whole-heartedly joined in to do their bit to ensure the doggos of the city don’t go hungry. The BBMP team wish to have locals who will manage the spots in the future.

Meanwhile, Bengalureans, do you wish to join this initiative and feed the stray dogs of Bengaluru?
