The essence of a city is literally found in its historic monuments. Historic monuments are the city’s main attractions because of their enormous architectural design and rich history. However, when such monuments get damaged, it certainly is a tragedy. One such monument, which is a cathedral in Paris, overcame this tragedy and has once again opened its gates. In April 2019, a massive fire destroyed the roof, upper walls, and spire of Notre-Dame, a famous landmark in Paris. However, following the fire, this magnificent landmark is now once again accessible to the general public.

With its stained glass windows, paintings from the 17th and 18th centuries, the Portal of the Virgin, and the sculpture of Our Lady, the historic cathedral has a rich past. It is a must-see for history buffs because it displays mediaeval architecture with elaborate patterns and stunning paintings.

Situated in the very heart of Paris, Notre Dame is easily accessible from the Cité metro station, just a five-minute stroll from the cathedral. Tourists enter through the central Portal of the Last Judgement, one of Notre Dame’s three beautiful arched gates. Then, according to the cathedral, people travel along an old “symbolic path,” which has been a pilgrimage route since the Middle Ages.

Notre Dame de Paris, a mediaeval Catholic cathedral in Paris, France, suffered significant damage to its top walls, most of its roof was destroyed, and its wooden spire collapsed after a structural fire started in the roof space. The massive fire erupted on April 15, 2019.
The property was contaminated with lead and hazardous dust from the Paris Notre Dame fire. In 2019, the cathedral did not celebrate Christmas service for the very first time since its establishment in 1803.
In 2020, investigators thought that either a cigarette or an electrical short circuit was the cause of the fire.
