People Flout Covid Protocols For Holi; India Reports 59K New Cases In Just 24 Hours

Just a year ago, the total number of coronavirus cases in India was around 1024 and the death toll was 27, according to an Indian Express report dated March 29, 2020. During that time, entire India was under lockdown, with streets deserted and shops and industries shut. Thousands of cash-strapped migrant workers had started heading back to their homes barefoot. People were scared of stepping out of their houses, fearing the virus spread. And this year, on March 29, 2021, despite India having millions of cases, a large number of people all across the country flouted the COVID-19 protocols to celebrate Holi. Neither did they wear masks nor maintain social distancing. Due to the sheer negligence of the masses, India witnessed around 56,119 fresh cases in 24 hours after Holi 2021. Read on to know more.

People Gathered In Large Numbers To Celebrate Holi

The COVID-19 cases are rising again in India. But after the relaxation of the lockdown protocols, people started taking the anti-COVID precautions lightly. Huge crowds of people celebrated Holi without adhering to the COVID protocols. People gathered in large numbers in Prayagraj, Shahjahanpur, Mathura, Ujjain, Barpeta and other places. People thronged in masses to Uttar Pradesh’s Dwarkadesh Temple, Bihari Temple and similar places to celebrate Holi. This happened even after the governments across states advised people to follow the norms.
