The Prime Minister of our country, Narendra Modi, is in the Northeast Indian state of Arunachal Pradesh as of now. There, he inaugurated the Sela Tunnel, which is the longest Bi-lane or Twin-Lane tunnel in the entire world. It provides connectivity between Guwahati in Assam and Tawang in Arunachal Pradesh. According to an article which was recently published by the Hindustan Times or HT, the ceremony took place at Itanagar, which is the capital of Arunachal Pradesh. In addition to inaugurating the Sela Tunnel, he also took part in the ‘Viksit Bharat, Viksit Northeast’ program.
Under the UNNATI scheme, the PM launched a number of other developmental projects which are worth ₹10,000 crores. UNNATI scheme or the Uttar Poorva Transformative Industrialisation Scheme is a new industrial developmental scheme for the Northeast regions.
It is launched with the aim of strengthening the industrial ecosystem of the Northeastern parts of India.

The Sela Tunnel was built by the Border Roads Organisation or the BRO. The total cost of the tunnel is a whopping ₹825 crores. This project comprises of two tunnels. Tunnel 1 is 1,003 metres long whereas Tunnel 2 is 1,595 metres long. The latter is a twin-tube tunnel.
In addition to these tunnels, the project also consists of two roads which stretch across 8.6 kilometres. Its capacity is quite impressive too. It can handle around 3,000 cars and as many as 2,000 trucks per day. The speed limit is capped at 80 kilometres per hour.
