Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s birthplace, Vadnagar in Gujarat may soon get a UNESCO World Heritage Site status. Vadnagar, nestled 35 km from Mehsana was earlier named Anartapura. It’s known to have a rich historical significance dating back to 4500 years old. Read on to know more.
What’s So Special About PM Modi’s Birth Town Vadnagar?
Vadnagar is known for its multi-layered history that dates back to nearly the 8th century BCE. With over 4500 years of rich history, this town has a large number of historically significant monuments. In 2006, many excavation works took place to unearth its mysteries and histories. From the Kirti Toran to Sree Hatkeswar Mahadev heritage, there’s a lot to explore in Vadnagar for history enthusiasts. The excavated Buddhist monasteries, fortifications, ancient wells, stupas and temples give a glimpse of the town’s architectural and cultural influences over the years.

Modhera’s Sun Temple & Tripura’s Unakoti May Also Make It To The List
Apart from PM Modi’s birthplace Vadnagar, Tripura’s historic rock-cut sculptures in Unakoti and Modhera’s Sun Temple may also make it to the UNESCO World Heritage sites list. The Sun temple in Modhera is nestled in Gujarat. It’s dedicated to the Hindu sun god, Surya. Nestled on the banks of river Pushpavati it was built in the Chalukya dynasty by the emporer Bhima I.

Unakoti in Tripura is known to house over one crore intricately carved sculptures of Lord Shiva, Devi and even Ganesha figures. There are even other elephant-headed sculptures which are associated with Lord Vishnu. Surrounded by lush green forests and vegetation, it’s one of the most sought-after places in Tripura for tourists.
