Indians celebrated Raksha Bandhan with pomp and grandeur but nothing could match up to the celebrations in Jammu & Kashmir. The union territory celebrated Raksha Bandhan for the first time when a few young women from Pune travelled all the way to J&K to the mesmerising villages of Machhal, Pushwari, Katwar and Dabpal to tie rakhis on their Kashmiri brothers and soldiers. Indian Army co-ordinated the event at the Machhal valley.
Pune Girls Travel To LoC To Celebrate Raksha Bandhan
The celebration turned a grand success with the heartwarming gestures of the girls. Gauri Hemant Kinikar along with her mother Sadhana Kinikar, and sister Shatakshi Kinikar along with other colleagues from Law college in Pune participated in this event. However, getting this far for the event was not easy. These ladies worked round the clock to gather funds through fundraising.

Soldiers And Young Boys Participated In The Celebrations
A large number of people from Maharashtra contributed to their campaign. During the celebrations at Machhal village, eminent civil dignitaries, Army officers, head administrators and villagers were present. During the event at Machhal garrison on August 22, a large number of young boys as well as soldiers were seen participating. The soldeiers and the youth were spotted with moist eyes during the event.

Indeed, these girls have got us teary eyed by travelling all the way to tie rakhi to the true ‘rakshaks’ of the country.
