The New Delta Variant May Push These Indian States Into Lockdown Again!

The Central Government informed that cases of Delta variant have been recorded across 11 states of India and the maximum number of such cases were reported in Maharashtra. In fear of the COVID-19 third wave, Maharashtra has already tightened curbs. If there is an upward trend in the number of positive coronavirus cases, the district disaster management authority will impose a higher level of restrictions. 

Lockdown May Be Imposed In 6 States & Union Territories

Apart from Maharashtra, the Delta variant could push many other states into lockdown. The Centre maintained that 90% of the coronavirus cases in India are being driven by the B.1.617.2 which is the Delta variant. COVID-19 variants of concern have been found in 174 districts in 35 states and Union Territories with the highest number of cases seen in Maharashtra, Delhi, Punjab, Telangana, West Bengal, and Gujarat.

Experts Are Warning Against Travel Due To The Spread Of Delta Variant

Delta is believed to be the most transmissible variant yet and it spreads faster than the original strain of the virus. According to experts, the Delta could be 50 percent more contagious than the Alpha strain that already accounts for more than 50% of the cases in the UK. Europe Issues Fresh Travel Restrictions For Indians In View Of The Delta Variant Of COVID.

Delta Variant May Cause More Severe Illnesses

Many evidence suggests that the variant may be able to partially evade the antibodies after vaccination and the coronavirus infection. This is precisely why even the fully-vaccinated people must wait to travel. Delta may also cause more severe illness and affected ones may be twice as likely for hospitalisation. Delta has been reported in 80 countries and it accounts for 90 percent of the cases in India and Britain.

District administrations have been asked to take various steps including vaccination and frequent testing.
