India is currently vaccinating its population with Bharat Biotech’s Covaxin, Oxford-AstraZeneca’s Covishield and Russia’s Russia’s Sputnik V. And now Moderna’s COVID-19 vaccine will be the fourth such vaccine to help our country fight against the Covid-19 pandemic. The Drugs Controller General of India (DCGI) gave permission to Cipla to import Moderna vaccines for emergency use in India. Moderna Vaccine Arrives In India

An mRNA vaccine, Moderna uses the same technology as Pfizer vaccine. Moderna Covid vaccine is known to have 94 percent effectiveness against the coronavirus. It has genetic instructions for our cells to make the coronavirus’ spike protein. The body then creates antibodies to attack the protein if it comes in contact with the virus. Moderna also revealed that its vaccine produced has antibodies against the Delta variant, which has emerged from India and spread across the world. To gain protection against the coronavirus, a person would need two shots of the Moderna vaccine. The second shot will be administered 28 days or 1 month after the first shot. When it comes to common side effects of this vaccine, a person will suffer from fatigue, headache, joint pain, muscle pain, injection site pain and chills that will last for up to 3 days.

This Vaccine Claims To Be Efficient Against Delta Variant

Moderna vaccine has been efficient in keeping the Alpha and Beta variants and bay according to statement by the company. The World Health Organisation (WHO) revealed that the Moderna vaccine is known to protect people against the coronavirus from 14 days after the first jab. India is receiving an unspecified number of doses from Moderna. They are being developed in the USA. Out of all the four vaccines administered in India, Moderna is known to have the highest effectiveness at 94 percent. This is followed by Sputnik at 91 percent, Covaxin at 77.8 percent and Covishield at 74 percent. After Moderna, Pfizer will soon be made available in India. Pfizer CEO Albert Bourla earlier revealed that the vaccine is in the final stages of approval and will be made available in India at the earliest. Meanwhile, here are countries that went mask-free.
