If you’re planning to travel in New Delhi on September 1, 2026, be prepared for traffic restrictions due to a motorcade rehearsal for the 18th BRICS Leaders’ Summit 2026. The rehearsal will take place from 11 AM to 3 PM, and commuters may face traffic diversions and restrictions across several parts of the city.
As per Hindustan Times, during the four-hour rehearsal, traffic will be slowed down on Sardar Patel Marg, Janpath, Mother Teresa Crescent, Teen Murti Marg, Brigadier Hoshiar Singh Marg, Akbar Road, Rajesh Pilot Marg, Subramaniam Bharti Marg, Mathura Road, Dr Zakir Hussain Marg, Ashoka Road, Africa Avenue, Tolstoy Marg, Shanti Path, Niti Marg, Panchsheel Marg, Barakhamba Road, APJ Abdul Kalam Road, Ranjeet Singh Flyover, Press Enclave Road, Lal Bahadur Shastri Marg, Ataturk Marg, Broz Tito Marg and Lala Lajpat Rai Marg. Traffic movement may also be controlled around India Gate, National Stadium, Kartavya Path and Connaught Place.

Alternative Routes For The Commuters
To make sure commuters don’t have to struggle in long traffic, Delhi issued traffic advisory. Hindustan Times reported that at Dhaula Kuan Flyover, vehicles going towards the airport and Gurgaon will be diverted towards NH-48/Gurgaon Road. Other traffic will be moved through Ring Road and Vande Mataram Marg, wherever required. At Moti Bagh Flyover, vehicles heading towards South-West Delhi, IGI Airport and Gurgaon will be diverted via Rao Tula Ram Marg.
Diversions will also be in place around Lodhi Road, Amrita Shergil Marg, Max Mueller Marg, Maharishi Raman Marg and Arch Bishop Macarius Marg. Traffic from Mathura Road towards Bharat Mandapam will be controlled at multiple points. However, vehicles going towards the Oberoi Hotel and Golf Link will be allowed to take the designated route near Oberoi Flyover.
At the U-turn opposite DPS on Mathura Road, vehicles heading towards Bharat Mandapam will be diverted through Lodhi Flyover and the U-turn underpass.
Mandi House will also see some changes. Vehicles coming from Feroz Shah Road, Bhagwan Das Road and Copernicus Marg will be diverted towards Barakhamba Road for travel towards New Delhi, Central, North, West and South Delhi. Traffic heading towards East, North, West, South and Central Delhi will instead be diverted through Sikandra Marg.
The BRICS Summit is also having an impact on Delhi’s hotel prices. With global leaders and delegations expected to arrive, demand for luxury hotels has shot up. Several premium properties now have limited rooms available, while some hotels are charging as much as ₹2.5 lakh per night.
