Falaknuma Palace’s Library Was Inspired By Windsor Castle
Take the library. Its carved wooden ceiling was inspired by the library at Windsor Castle, the historic British royal residence whose architecture evolved over centuries but took on a distinctly Gothic character, particularly after the major transformations under George IV. Towers, battlements, elaborate interiors and an unmistakable sense of royal drama define Windsor. At Falaknuma, that influence appears in a much subtler form: above the books.
And there are plenty of those! The library is said to hold around 6,000 rare volumes, including manuscripts, first editions and books in English, Urdu and Persian, along with an important collection of Qurans.
There is something revealing about that room. The easiest way to understand royalty is through its jewellery, palaces and possessions. But a library tells you something else: what a person was curious about. What they chose to preserve. What they thought was worth knowing.
