On 1st August, Prime Minister Narendra Modi is going to inaugurate the Phugewadi to Shivajinagar stretch of the Pune Metro. This stretch will be opened to the public on the same day. In fact, it will help reduce travel time between the PCMC and Pune to 25 minutes. And will provide metro trains every 10 minutes! Residents of Pimpri-Chinchwad who travel to Pune every day for jobs and other work will soon have a reason to celebrate.

At the moment, commuters use a variety of modes of transportation to travel roughly two hours from Pimpri to Shivajinagar. Prior to the arrival of the monsoon, it took commuters an hour to an hour and a half to arrive in Pune.

Currently, the Phugewadi-Dapodi-Bopodi and Khadki stretch of the Pune-Mumbai highway have frequent traffic jams because of the monsoon and ongoing Metro and road widening projects at Bopodi.

Even though there is less traffic in the afternoon, commuters must travel at least two or even more hours from Pimpri to reach Shivajinagar in the morning and during peak traffic hours.

Daily commuters and MahaMetro officials agreed that the introduction of Metro service between Phugewadi and Shivajinagar will be a huge benefit for individuals who travel between Pimpri-Chinchwad and Pune city every day.

According to The Indian Express report, an official revealed that office workers and college students currently need one to two hours to get to Pune city. After Prime Minister Narendra Modi inaugurates the Phugewadi-Shivajinagar section, this time would significantly decrease.

He further stated that once the metro line is operational, it will take citizens 25 minutes to go from Pimpri-Chinchwad to Shivajinagar as opposed to one to two hours if they utilise buses or private vehicles.
