In a tragic turn of events, a 10-year-old girl in Patiala died of suspected food poisoning after eating a cake on her birthday. The family ordered a chocolate cake online from a local bakery called ‘Cake Kanha’ in Adalat Bazar, Patiala. The cake is suspected to have contained poisonous substances that led to the 10-year-old’s death.
In a video circulating online, the victim, Manvi, was seen cutting the cake and celebrating with her family. The family, reportedly, was celebrating Manvi’s birthday on March 24, around 7 PM. By 10 PM, the entire family fell ill. As per the family, Manvi and her sister started vomiting soon after. She even felt extremely thirsty and complained about feeling dryness in her mouth.
As her health continued to deteriorate, the family took Manvi to a hospital. There she was put on oxygen and the doctors even performed an ECG (electrocardiogram). However, they were unable to save her and she was declared dead. The family suspects that the cake was laced with some poisonous substances and has filed a case against the bakery and its owner. The family has requested a postponement of the victim’s body and also sent a sample of the cake for testing.

People Online Question Food Safety Standards In India

Food safety standards are one of the worst in India.

Basically no checks or accountability and or governance be it any government nothing changes for public. It’s shocking!

Food safety here is a joke in the entire India. You will be surprised to know that people are running 20 different “restaurants” in 1RK as cloud kitchens listed over food-delivering apps. You have no idea how many mice and cockroaches were around the food you just ordered. And… https://t.co/vC6Marr2zH

Oh God 😭 Feeling so sad for the family. This is the worst kind of food adulteration possible. Postmortem report will throw light on the exact reason of the death. Conspiracy or family enmity can’t be ruled out.

This is really sad and heartbreaking also to imagine that these were the last few moments of the girl. While ordering online it’s best to pick known Restaurants and shops. There’s a reason why local cakes are cheaper and good bakerries charge a hefty sum. local breads and cakes…

A lot of people had questions about what could have possibly gone wrong with the cake to lead to such a tragedy.
But How?? Just after eating birthday cake?? Lots of people celebrate their birthdays with cakes.. what police investigate? What is the real reason of this , anything unhealthy? Chemical? Or something else

A case under section 302 should be registered against the bakery owner.

Unbelievable…! Alongside the Bakery staff & owner, the food inspector responsible for audit in this area should be put behind the bars.

This is the most horrible case I’ve ever come across.
Food inspectors, health officials and local bodies should be held responsible as well. I feel it’s a case of botulism and it’s fatal for younger kids.— nicki 🦄 (@nickiminachhh) March 30, 2024
Cloud kitchen are the worst places to order food from, please dont do it. Low pay therefore carelessness, unhygienic conditions, stale foods few of the hazards.
Always order where we can see food being prepared or atleast one where there is foot traffic.— Bridgeburner (@birdgeburner) March 30, 2024
There is no food safety department in our country ..even it’s there it’s fully corrupted and nothing is taken seriously
