Queen Elizabeth To Get Early Covid 19 Shot As UK Rolls Out Vaccine

Good days are about to come! To shed some light to the dark days of covid-19, Britain is all set to become the first country to roll out the covid-19 vaccine this week. The first shots of the vaccine will be made available at 50 hospitals which have means for freezing the vaccine at a temperature between 70 and 80 degrees Celsius. And Queen Elizabeth, 94, and Prince Philip, 99, are expected to be among the first to receive the Pfizer/BioNTech vaccine. Post that, the vaccine will then be made available to those above the age of 80 from Tuesday.

The UK Has Ordered 40 Million Doses Of The Vaccine For The Public

People in the UK are quite sceptical about the vaccination because of varied anti-vaccine claims on social media. However, with Queen Elizabeth taking the vaccine, people will surely be able to overcome their anxieties. In terms of the vaccine, the UK has ordered 40 million doses of the Pfizer/BioNTech vaccine. It will be enough to vaccinate around 20 million people with two shots, 21 days apart. About 800,000 doses are expected to be available within the first week.

Queen Elizabeth And Prince Philip Will Let People Know Once They Take The Vaccine

On this, reports in British newspaper state that Queen Elizabeth and Prince Philip will let the people know that they have had the vaccine. Keeping their age in mind, the Queen and Prince are first in the group. After them, frontline health workers, people above 80 and care home workers are the ones in line to receive the vaccine.

Calling this mass rollout a historic moment, health secretary Matt Hancock to a leading daily said,

“I urge everybody to play their part to suppress this virus and follow the local restrictions to protect the National Health Service while they carry out this crucial work”.

In terms of the covid-19 cases, the covid-19 pandemic which emerged in China last year has infected more than 66 million people across the world. The pandemic has also lead to the death of more 1.5 million people.
