On Tuesday, June 23, President Droupadi Murmu conferred the Padma Awards 2026 during the second Civil Investiture Ceremony. The prestigious ceremony was held in New Delhi and honoured 65 eminent personalities who displayed exemplary work across a range of fields. Former Indian cricketer Rohit Sharma and R Madhavan were awarded the Padma Shri.

During the Padma Awards 2026, President Droupadi Murmu awarded 65 Padma Awards. This included 56 Padma Shri Awards, 65 Padma Awards and two Padma Vibhushan awards. Among the Padma Shri awardees, cricketer Rohit Sharma, actor R Madhavan, and singer Alka Yagnik were some of the recipients. Another notable name was the tennis great Vijay Amritraj.
Actor R Madhavan, who has a vast body of work across several languages, and the recent blockbuster Dhurandhar and Dhurandhar: The Revenge, where he played the role of India’s RAW chief Ajay Sanyal, was accompanied by his wife, Sarita and son, Vedaant.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Vice President C.P Radhakrishnan, and Home Minister Amit Shah graced the occasion and congratulated the winners with applause. In a heartwarming moment, R Madhavan first walked to PM Modi, warmly shook his hands, and respectfully bowed down to President Murmu before taking his award.
Former Indian skipper Rohit Sharma was conferred the Padma Shri for his outstanding contributions to cricket. Under his able leadership, the Indian men’s cricket team won the ICC T20 World Cup 2024 and the Champions Trophy 2025.

Film Legend Mammooty Awarded Padma Bhushan
India’s third-highest civilian award was conferred to Indian legendary actor Mammooty. The award recognised his exemplary contribution to Indian cinema and arts. The veteran Malayalam actor was accompanied by his son, actor Dulquer Salmaan, wife Sulfath, and daughter Surumi. A deeply grateful Mammooty, emotionally walked towards the stage, thanking the dignitaries with folded hands, before accepting the award. His son, actor Dulquer Salmaan, proudly cheered his father from the audience.
