Railway Operations Halted On The Nilgiri Mountain Route; Full List Of Cancelled Trains Inside

The Nilgiri Mountain Railway is one of the most scenic routes in India. Recently, it has witnessed extremely bad weather. Heavy rainfall and adverse weather conditions have resulted in many trees falling on the track. This has compromised the structural integrity of the train track. Owing to this, the officials have decided to temporarily halt all operations on this route. Here are all the details that you need to know about the list of trains that have been cancelled.

Railway Operations Halted On The Nilgiri Mountain Route

The area around The Nilgiri Mountain Railway or the NMR has been witnessing pretty bad weather lately. It has been plagued with heavy rainfalls which have, in turn, caused some trees to fall on the track. The section between Kallar and Coonoor is where there trees have fallen. This has compromised the structural integrity of the tracks.

Since it wouldn’t be safe for trains to ply on the compromised track, authorities have decided to cancel a number of trains that travel via that route. The suspension of operations will continue till November 16. Efforts to restore the railway are going on in full swing. According to an article recently published by The Financial Express, people who had booked tickets for the train will receive a full refund.

The Nilgiri Mountain Railway is operated by the Southern Railway or SR. It is the only rack railway in India and is known for the breathtaking views its route offers. It is an extension of the Darjeeling Himalayan Railway or DHR, which has been declared as one of the world heritage sites by UNESCO. In 2005, NMR was also added to the list.
