Rain, Mist And Cooler Weather Turn UAE’s Eastern Coast Into A Summer Oasis & Here’s 6 Things Do Here!

Just when everyone thought this week was all about the heat, the UAE’s eastern coast decided to switch things up with rains. Residents in Fujairah and Khor Fakkan woke up to refreshing showers on Friday, bringing misty mountain views and a rare break from the usual July swelter. And if you’ve been putting off an East Coast trip because of the heat, this might be your window.

Rain, Cooler Weather Arrives On The Eastern Coast Of UAE

Light to occasionally moderate rain fell over areas near the Hajar Mountains, creating scenes that felt more like autumn than midsummer along the eastern coastline. The rainfall came as a surprise too, since the National Centre of Meteorology had actually forecast generally clear skies for the day, with only low clouds expected over the eastern coast.

Why It Rained Anyway

The showers were linked to Al Marawih convective clouds, a recurring summer weather pattern that forms over the Hajar Mountains when moist air moves in from the Sea of Oman. As that humid air gets pushed upward by the mountains, it cools and builds into towering cumulonimbus clouds, the kind capable of producing thunderstorms and isolated rainfall. These clouds were expected to stay active over the Hajar range and nearby border areas through the afternoon, with a chance of more thundery showers.

What Else To Expect

The NCM said winds would stay light to moderate, occasionally picking up to fresh, while seas in both the Arabian Gulf and Sea of Oman were expected to remain slight. This comes on the back of a stretch of unstable weather across the UAE, and it’s a pattern that tends to repeat through the summer months whenever conditions line up right.

6 Things To Do On The East Coast While It’s Cooler

  1. Hike Wadi Wurayah
Wadi Wurayah National Park is Fujairah’s protected mountain reserve, home to waterfalls, freshwater pools and rare wildlife. Post-rain is actually the best time to visit, since the wadi tends to be flowing rather than dry.
  2. Drive Up To Jebel Jais Viewpoints (Via Khor Fakkan Route)
While Jebel Jais itself is in Ras Al Khaimah, the mountain roads connecting the east coast offer similarly misty, cooler views right now, ideal for a scenic drive without the usual heat haze.
  3. Visit Al Bidyah Mosque
The UAE’s oldest known mosque sits just outside Khor Fakkan and looks especially atmospheric under overcast skies. It’s a quiet, quick stop if you’re driving through.
  4. Snorkel Or Dive Off Khor Fakkan
Khor Fakkan’s coastline is known for calmer waters and decent visibility, and cooler air temperatures make the post-swim walk back to the car a lot more bearable.

  1. Walk Along Fujairah Corniche
With the heat dialled down, the corniche becomes genuinely walkable rather than something you rush through between air-conditioned stops.
  2. Explore Fujairah Fort And Heritage Village
This is one of those spots that’s far more enjoyable without the usual midday sun beating down. Overcast weather makes it a good time to actually wander rather than power through for photos.

If you’re anywhere near Fujairah or Khor Fakkan this weekend, it might be worth packing a light jacket, an odd thing to say in July.
