Scroll on to know more about this study.
Drinking Coffee May Boost Lifespan By Almost 2 Years
According to a study published in Ageing Research Reviews journal, it was found that drinking coffee could add almost two years of healthy living to one’s life. The study showed that as people age, regular, but moderate, consumption of coffee could play an important role in supporting a healthy and balanced lifestyle.
Rodrigo Cunha, the lead author of the study from the University of Coimbra in Portugal, said, “We know that the world’s population is ageing faster than ever, which is why it’s increasingly important to explore dietary interventions which may allow people to not only live longer but also healthier lives.”
According to NDTV, Drinking coffee regularly can reduce deaths from various causes. This is mainly because it has been shown that coffee can lower the risk of heart disease, cognitive decline, and chronic diseases, among others.
What The New Study Says
According to Rodrigo Cunha, “regular, moderate coffee consumption can play in mediating against the biological mechanisms which naturally slow or fail as we get older – triggering a range of potential health issues and comorbidities.” The study highlighted that coffee contains a mixture of over 2,000 potentially bioactive compounds. Some of these compounds even provide antioxidants, offer anti-inflammatory benefits, reduce neuroinflammation, and regulate insulin sensitivity.
It is to be noted that the study does not give a clear picture of the exact process by which coffee and its components contribute to extending a healthy life. More research on this topic helps explore this study further, the researchers added.
