Russia’s Victory Day Might Be A Turning Point In Russia-Ukraine War

Just days away, Russia will celebrate one of the nation’s most important holidays. But this year, it seems like the day will be celebrated with a different meaning. Victory Day commemorates the Soviet Union’s victory over Nazi Germany during World War II and is celebrated every year on the 9th of May. According to some western critics, this year the celebration might be about the conflict in Ukraine.

Official Declaration Of War

Russian President Vladimir Putin has repeatedly warned of new battles over the past few years during the near-sacred national holiday. At last year’s Red Square speech, he decried how Russia’s enemies were using much of the Nazi ideology. Two months after launching the attack on Ukraine, critics believe that this Victory day will be a turning point and Putin may officially declare a war on Ukraine.

Putin justified the war with Ukraine as a way to denazify the country. He used Nazism, World War 2 and Holocaust as the reasons to justify Russia’s attack on Ukraine. But historians have criticized his way of spreading wrong information and pushing his own agenda. Hence many political analysts believe that he may use his speech at Red Square to push the conflict in Ukraine.
