Get your passports ready and your camera rolls cleared, history’s about to be made. A high-speed train line between Saudi Arabia and Egypt is officially confirmed. Yes, you heard right. The kind of transport infrastructure that once lived in imagination is now moving full steam ahead. And the best part? This isn’t just about two countries swapping rail tracks, it’s a game-changing move to link Asia, Africa, and Europe like never before.
A New Train Line Is Set To Link Saudi Arabia And Egypt!
Saudi Arabia and Egypt have been imagining and planning this idea since 2016, when King Salman of Saudi Arabia first placed the concept of a bridge across the Strait of Tiran. Fast-forward to 2025, and Egypt’s Transport Minister Kamel al-Wazir has confirmed that all planning is complete. Whether it ends up being a bridge or a tunnel (they’re still weighing it up), the line is ready to roll.. The bridge will link Saudi Arabia’s Ras Hamid to Egypt’s Sharm el-Sheikh and potentially support NEOM’s grand vision too.
The bridge, initially proposed to cost around $4 billion, will do more than just carry passengers. It’s the cornerstone of a broader plan to connect the continents through rail. Once operational, it will link up with Egypt’s high-speed lines, making it possible to travel from Saudi Arabia to the Mediterranean and beyond by train.

While Saudi Arabia sets the stage, Egypt is going turbo mode on its railway ambitions. The country’s already investing nearly $7.8 billion into the first phase of a sprawling 2,000-km high-speed electric train network. The line will connect Sokhna Port on the Red Sea to Alexandria on the Mediterranean, with a key link to Aswan in the far south. The new line will bypass the pyramids (imagine that view) while cleverly avoiding ancient sites like Abydos. The government’s making sure modern progress doesn’t trample on 5,000 years of history. Hats off to that level of balance.
Also, shoutout to Siemens Mobility, Orascom Construction, and the Arab Contractors Company for converting this long-thought dream into reality.
