Led by the Royal Commission for Riyadh City, Riyadh Art has revealed that it has installed 75 artworks across the capital. This is a part of its permanent public art collection. However, it also revealed that there are plans to install 115 artworks additionally, throughout 2026 and beyond. Riyadh Art Plans Large-Scale Artworks Across Public Spaces
Expanding the programme, Riyadh Art has plans to place large-scale artworks across public spaces. The permanent collection includes 100 international artists who are from 47 countries. We are talking about renowned names, like Alexander Calder, Anish Kapoor and Giuseppe Penone, as mentioned by the Saudi Gazette.

There are an additional 35 Saudi artists as well, including names like Mohammed Al Saleem. These would be across streets, neighbourhoods, key routes of movement, and cultural landmarks. The collection reflects Riyadh Art’s approach to public art as an enduring civic act, which is also accessible.
It should be noted that the works were commissioned through an international competition that received 161 applications. 72 artists were, as a result, shortlisted, and 70 final proposals were submitted. The final selection includes internationally acclaimed artists, like Manal AlDowayan, El Anatsui, Anselm Kiefer, Janet Echelman, and Idris Khan.

It should be noted that there are 12 site-specific monumental-scale sculptures, which will also be positioned along major transport corridors. Saudi Gazette, in its report, further revealed how Giuseppe Penone’s In the Balance, which is installed at the King Abdulaziz Historical Centre. While Subodh Gupta’s Family Tree at the King Abdullah Financial District uses everyday domestic objects. On the other hand, Nobuo Sekine’s Phase of Nothingness, at the Sports Boulevard, shows material restraint and balance. Golden Dunes by Zaman Jassim is located along a major intersection, and Untitled by Ahmed Angawi is at Al Kharj Road and Southern Ring Road.
With so many exquisite artworks installed along key streets and landmarks of the city, they don’t just add aesthetic appeal to the city but also engage the public with their design.
