The European Union member states and lawmakers took some major decisions this Tuesday to make the visa process more digital. With the digital inputs and this new law in the Schengen visa system, people will not need to add a sticker to their passports. More digital steps in the visa process will make it convenient for the applicants to take the steps in their own comfort. Once the changes come into action in the near future, there will be no need for most applicants to head to any visa office or wait in a queue at the visa consulate. They can simply follow the process online and apply for the visa digitally.

Matjaz Nemec is the lead MEP of this new change. The MEP shared how the Schengen visa process will get affordable, convenient, and quicker, as reported by Hindustan Times. This new law will be a major benefit to reduce the chances of fraud and enhance security as well. Maria Malmer Stenergard, the migration minister of Sweden stated how this digital change will help in decreasing the chances of stealing the visa stickers.

According to issa.house.gov, Australia is already following some visa systems that allow users to link their visa and passport without the necessity to add any sticker on the passport.

One significant point of this change is that first-time Schengen visa applicants might need to visit the consulate or any visa office. Also, the in-person processing stays applicable for people who carry a new passport. Even passport holders with changed biometric details may need to head to the consulate or any visa office.
