Besides being known as ‘The Gateway To Old India’ and a town of spice trading merchants, Kochi is blessed with an abundance of natural resources. There is nothing more fascinating than taking a boat ride over the calm lakes, which are dotted with coconut trees. The backwaters offer breathtaking views of migratory and native species, enormous Chinese fishing nets, little towns, and more. They are even more beautiful due to their mesmerising scenery and abundant vegetation. Taking inspiration from this, the place has an experimental waterside restaurant also named ‘The Backwaters’. And it offers more than a heartwarming dining experience!

The Backwaters In Kochi Is An Experimental Waterside Restaurant!

Beyond its excellent food, a new alfresco setting in the hamlet of Panangad, in suburban Kochi, is a tempting choice. The Backwaters, as the restaurant’s name suggests, is an immersive waterfront dining establishment that hosts some leisure events for their guests.

The restaurant is surrounded by paddy fields, lush scenery, lakes, towns, and the occasional fisherman selling his catch of the day. Its rustic ambience adds to the unwavering charm of the simple design. Karl Damschen, a Swiss architect well-known for his Kerala restoration projects, created The Backwaters. It is a subdued extension of the surrounding countryside. The visitors may chose to eat in the indoor cabana, at lounge tables beneath a calming canopy, or tables by the water with a view of Vembanad Lake. Every spot will offer the best of the restaurant’s dining experience!

Working with women from surrounding villages, Chef Rohan D’Souza created an exceptional South Indian assortment at The Backwaters. In fact, he has experience of working with chefs like like Marco Pierre White and James Martin. Additionally, there is a wide continental menu that includes everything from traditional thin-crust pizzas to falafel and Thai-style squid for locals who are in the mood for something different.

Larger groups can also reserve an hour-long cruise on a traditional rice boat. Additionally, visitors who are interested in learning more about the culture can get on a bike and go on a village tour that the restaurant arranges. This includes stops at fish farms, walks through paddy fields, and other unspoiled views of rural life.

And learn how to use Chinese fishing nets in their natural habitat. In addition to cycling to nearby villages, kayaking along the tranquil backwaters, and fishing expeditions, guests can look forward to meals that are as captivating as the surrounding pastoral views.
