Several major airports in North India have been closed to civilians due to airspace restrictions. On May 7, several Indian go-betweens took to social media to announce the suspension of flight operations to and from northern India airports like Srinagar and Amritsar. Scroll on to know more.

According to the Financial Express, India has decided to shut down flight operations across major airports across the northern region. The Airports Authority of India confirmed that Srinagar airfield will be shut down for all commercial flights until further notice.

Due to airspace restrictions, flights to and from Dharamshala (Himachal Pradesh), Leh, Jammu and Srinagar (Jammu and Kashmir), Amritsar (Punjab), Bikaner (Rajasthan), and Hindon (Delhi NCR) have been affected. As per reports, all flights have been cancelled until 12 noon on May 7, 2025. Further details will be shared after further communication by the authorities.

Major Airlines Issue Advisory

Indian airlines like IndiGo and Air India confirmed the closures of the airports in North India. They posted about the same on social media platform X. Besides them, airlines like Akasa Air, SpiceJet, and even Qatar Airways have issued travel advisories.

IndiGo cancelled all its flights for May 7 to and from Srinagar, Jammu, Amritsar, Leh, Chandigarh, Dharamshala, Bikaner, Jodhpur, and also Gwalior due to airspace restrictions. They are offering rebooking and refund options to passengers as well.

As per the latest updates, Air India has cancelled flights from Jammu, Srinagar, Leh, Jodhpur, Amritsar, Bhuj, Jamnagar, Chandigarh, and Rajkot till 5: 29 AM on May 10. They have taken this step in accordance with the notification issued by aviation authorities on the closure of these airports.

All the airlines are offering rebooking and total refund options for the passengers due to this.

Due to the airport closure, two international flights headed for Amritsar were rerouted to Delhi. Seeing how the airspace is restricted for the time being, the Delhi Airport also issued a travel advisory for the flyers and informed them that some flight operations would be impacted. They have advised passengers to check the flight schedule for any updates before heading to the airport.
