Talking about its design inspiration and lots more, Elena Sorlini, CEO of Abu Dhabi Airports Company shared some exclusive details with the Curly Tales team. CEO Elena Sorlini Talks About The Architecture Of The Airport

The newly revamped design of the Zayed International Airport offers the most innovative, safe, and seamless airport experience. Meeting the highest standards of quality and service, the X shape optimises operational efficiencies. Talking more about this, CEO Elena Sorlini says, “The airport highlights the richness of Emirati culture and Arabian heritage fostered by the vision of Sheikh Zayed, to whom the airport pays homage.” However, the beautiful design and the efficiency make one wonder about the inspiration for this airport in Abu Dhabi. Talking about this, she mentions, “We were inspired by the design of this iconic terminal, with each pier representing and pointing to either the emirate, desert, oasis or sea; landscapes synonymous with Abu Dhabi.”

Adding further, she says, “Emirati culture and hospitality come together onsite to offer a unique traveller experience, connecting past and present to bring Abu Dhabi to the world.” To achieve this marvellous feat, they partnered with Kohn Pedersen Fox Associates. They designed the X-shaped structure!

It’s worth mentioning that the development of this new airport terminal took a reasonable amount of time, when compared to the standard time needed to build a new airport. Elaborating on this, she mentions, “The result is the exceptional facility you see today, which Abu Dhabi truly needed to meet the growth in demand and unlock the full potential of Abu Dhabi’s tourism and trade.”
